The Largest Stone Carving in the Forbidden City

Pin It Now!

This is a photo of the largest stone carving in the Forbidden City taken in December 2006 when my wife I took a short trip through China. It is a huge (16.75 meters long, 3.07 meters wide, 1.7 meters thick) marble relief with interlocking lotus patterns all around it, curling waves at the bottom and nine dragons amidst clouds playing with pearls.

The photo doesn’t really do it much justice and if sculptures are something you are in to, it is something that is worth seeing for yourself if you haven’t already been through the Forbidden City which in itself is an amazing experience.

Cycle Rickshaw - Restaurant 88, originally uploaded by gerald.n.

This is a photo of a cycle rickshaw sitting outside Restaurant 88 - Metropolitan Vietnam. My wife and I went there for dinner on Valentines Day. The food was really good and very reasonably priced. I would recommend it to anyone in the area who wants to get a taste of some Vietnamese cuisine.

I spotted it when I was driving through Island Bay (Wellington) and just had to turn around to get a closer look and see what it was all about. With New Zealand’s clean and green image and Wellington’s bohemian vibe, I thought the motor home seemed like a perfect fit for something that is New Zealand. The occupant who was listening to what I think was classical music had the windows and door open and there was a quiet gentle breeze blowing through the home. It seemed like a nice, quiet, peaceful and simple place to run away to.

Cattle Crossing – Bubi River

Pin It Now! Cattle Crossing – Bubi River, Zimbabwe
This is a site that I am sure a number of you will not see everyday. My wife and I were driving from Beitbridge to Harare and ran into a herd of cattle crossing the road in the Bubi River area in Southern Zimbabwe.

This is to commemorate the life and times of my best friend Riccardo De Angelis who passed away on the 7th of March 2007.
It has been just over a year since you passed away and sometimes I still can’t believe you are gone.
I am glad we got the chance to share so much in life together.
I miss you my friend.
Till we meet again.

About My Pictorial World

Pin It Now!
Where you are, where you go, whatever you see, if you look close enough there will be something that will catch your attention and will be either visual pleasing, intriguing, mysterious, mesmerizing and the list goes on. For some it may be sunsets, hills and mountains, flowers and people and for others it may be planes, cars, architecture or animals.

The world has so much to offer and there are so many things that people will miss out on and never get to see unless someone captures it and shares it with the world. I have started this blog to share some of the photos I have taken and ones I will take as time goes by. I’m sure there will be one or two things that you have not yet seen and will find fascinating. If you feel like contributing an image of your own, please feel free to do so.
ENJOY!
